Tefillin and mezuzahs should be checked at least twice every seven years. And the Lubavitcher Rebbe has suggested that they should be checked yearly. Please use the convenient form, and mail us your STaM (please insure it) and mostly within 24 hours of receipt, it will be checked and shipped back to you. In the event of a problem, our sofer will discuss it with you during this time.
